<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more appropriately convert a color image into a monochromatic image and to print the converted image without any burden on a user. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of monochromatic images, which are made monochromatic, are produced by applying a plurality of monochrome filters to a selected color image, and contrasts of the plurality of monochromatic images generated are arithmetically operated (S120-S160). A monochrome filter used for producing a monochromatic image having the highest contrast is determined to a performance filter in accordance with an arithmetic result (step S160), a monochromatic image is produced by applying the performance filter to the selected color image (S170), and printing is performed, based on the monochromatic image produced (step S180).
