PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous annealing furnace for bright annealing of a metal strip which introduces atmospheric gas in the furnace to the outside of the furnace thereby removing, at the outside of the furnace, white powder generated in the atmospheric gas and which prevents the adhesion of the white powder on the inner surface of a front chamber being the prestage of a heating chamber. SOLUTION: The continuous annealing furnace 10 includes the front chamber 15 with a water cooling jacket, the heating chamber 16 and a cooling chamber 18 which are disposed from a charging opening 12 to a taking-out opening 14, and continuously applies the bright annealing treatment to the metal strip charged from the charging opening 12 under reduced atmospheric gas in the furnace. In the continuous annealing furnace 10, a part of the atmospheric gas is supplied into the furnace from the outlet side of the heating chamber 16 and the inlet side of the front chamber 15 to generate gas flow in the heating chamber 16 toward the inlet side thereof and gas flow in the front chamber 15 toward the heating chamber 16 side in the furnace. The continuous annealing furnace 10 further includes: circulating piping 30 through which the atmospheric gas in the furnace is taken out to the outside of the furnace from the inlet side of the heating chamber 16 and is returned again into the furnace; and a chamber 32 with a water cooling jacket, a cyclone 34 and a filter 70 which are used to remove the white powder in the atmospheric gas and are arranged in the circulating piping 30.
