PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a timber drying method, capable of easily and efficiently performing drying of timber while suppressing surface crack and/or internal crack of the timber. SOLUTION: In the timber drying method for drying timber by artificial drying, the timber 10 is artificially dried while covering a butt end surface 10a of the timber 10 with a shielding material which can reduce vaporization of moisture from the butt end surface 10a of the timber such as a butt end surface shielding tool 11.
