摘要 A honeycomb structure wherein a sealing failure and a crack due to heat shock caused by cells having a small cross-section are prevented from occurring. A honeycomb structure used for a filter for purifying the exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine has a double structure consisting of an outer tube and an inner tube. Inside cell partitioning walls for forming inside through-holes are provided on the inner side of the inner tube. Outside cell partitioning walls for forming outside through-holes are provided between the outer tube and the inner tube. Through-holes having an irregular cross section are formed by the inner tube and inside cell partitioning walls. Connection through-holes are formed by making at least one of the following connection patterns: the connection between a through-hole which has an irregular cross-section and an outside through-hole, the through-holes sharing the inner tube; the connection between a through-hole which has an irregular cross-section and another through-hole which has an irregular cross-section, the through-holes sharing an inside cell partitioning wall; and the connection between a through-hole which has an irregular cross-section and an inside through-hole, the through-holes sharing an inside cell partitioning wall.
