The unit (12) has a synchronizing body (14) mounted on a gear shaft in a torque-proof manner. A shifting sleeve (16) is axially displaceable with respect to the body. Synchronizing rings (18, 20) couple the body to assigned gear wheels (22, 24) of the gearbox via a frictional connection. A pre-synchronizing unit acts on the shifting sleeve and applies an axial shifting force to the rings against the gear wheels when the shifting sleeve is axially displaced. The pre-synchronizing unit holds and positions the rings in both opposed axial directions in a positively-fit manner.
