The device (10) has two flat or plate-type filter bodies (22) arranged in a cabinet (14) one above another at a distance, when the bodies are seen along an axial direction (x) of the device. The filter bodies are passed by exhaust gas and consist of metal froth, metallic sponge and metallic hollow sphere structure. Longitudinal edges of the bodies extend along casing sections. The bodies extend between the housing sections over an entire width of the cabinet at the edges. The cabinet has a gas inlet (16), which opens into an interstice (24) between the filter bodies.
