PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel pyridine alkaloids, the preparation process thereof and the uses of the same.

SOLUTION: This invention relates to: novel pyridine alkaloid compounds of formula (I), or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof; the process for preparing the same; and a composition with the same. This invention also relates to the uses of a pyridine compound for increasing the activity of PPARγ, for prevention and/or treatment of a disease or disorder related to insulin resistance, and for prevention and/or treatment of metabolic syndrome or its complication. This invention further relates to extracts of red yeast-fermented products and their uses for prevention and/or treatment of a disease or disorder related to insulin resistance, such as metabolic syndrome.
