PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of performing failure detection with no additional separate circuit dedicated for failure detection. SOLUTION: The failure diagnosis device which diagnoses failure of a detector that detects rotational angle, includes a first rotational angle sensor for detecting rotational angle of a second gear, a second rotational angle sensor for detecting rotational angle of a third gear, and a calculator which calculates rotational angle of a second rotating shaft based on the difference in rotational angle between the rotational angle of the second gear detected by the first rotational angle sensor and that of the third gear detected by the second rotational angle sensor. Based on the rotational angle of the second gear detected by the first rotational angle sensor and the rotational angle of the third gear detected by the second rotational angle sensor, an angle of intersection θK, at which the difference in rotational angle between the rotational angle of the second gear and that of the third gear becomes zero, is calculated (S906), and failure is diagnosed based on the angle of intersection θK (S907-S910).
