The device (10) has a sampler (26) accommodated in sampling, neutral and diagnostic positions. A distal end of the sampler is withdrawn behind a distal opening (20) of a cover (16) in the neutral position. The diagnostic position is adjacent to the neutral position, and the distal end of the sampler is broader than in the neutral position behind the distal opening of the cover. A fluid receiving zone (30) stays in mechanical contact with a projection (162) of the cover in the diagnostic position, where the projection is impregnated with dry potassium hydroxide and is directed inwardly.
