PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display medium achieving high resolution. SOLUTION: The display medium 21 includes: a pair of substrates disposed opposing to each other through a gap, at least one of which has light-transmitting property; a pixel electrode 2 disposed on one substrate 1 of the pair of substrates; a common electrode 10 disposed on the other substrate 3 of the pair of substrates, opposing to the pixel electrode through the gap; and display layers 4, 6, 8 disposed between the pixel electrode and the common electrode and displaying an image in accordance with electric fields formed between the electrodes. The common electrode includes two or more common electrode layers including a first common electrode layer 11 and a second common electrode layer 12 to which a voltage is independently controlled, disposed as leaving a gap in a thickness direction. The first common electrode layer includes electrode portions 11A, 11B, 11C and a non-electrode portion in accordance with the arrangement of the pixel electrodes, while the second common electrode layer includes an electrode portion overlapping at least the non-electrode portion of the first common electrode layer in the thickness direction.
