<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization non-dependent type optical modulator. <P>SOLUTION: The optical modulator 2100 performs phase modulation of incident light. The optical modulator 2100 includes a PBS (Polarization Beam Splitter) 2150, first liquid crystal cells 2161 and 2162, and second liquid crystal cells 2171 and 2172. The PBS 2150 separates the incident light into first and second waves to be different polarization waves. The first liquid crystal cells 2161 and 2162 input the first wave separated by the PBS 2150 and perform phase modulation thereof. The second liquid crystal cells 2171 and 2172 input the second wave separated by the PBS 2150 and perform phase modulation thereof. The PBS 2150 couples the first wave phase-modulated and outputted from the first liquid crystal cells 2161 and 2162 and the second wave phase-modulated and outputted from the second liquid crystal cells 2171 and 2172. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
