SOLUTION: A solid-state image pickup device includes a first photoelectric conversion region 101 and second photoelectric conversion region 102, formed at the lower part of a semiconductor substrate 151, respectively, which lies mutually adjacent to a first direction parallel to the surface of the substrate; a perpendicular transfer region 153, formed at the upper part of the semiconductor substrate along a second direction that intersects the first direction, lying across the upper part of the first photoelectric conversion region and the upper part of the second photoelectric conversion region; a first transfer electrode 154 and second transfer electrode 155, formed on the perpendicular transfer region, lying across the upper part of the first photoelectric conversion region and the upper part of the second photoelectric conversion region, which mutually adjoin in the second direction; a first read-out region 161, formed between the first photoelectric conversion region and vertical transfer region at the lower part of the first transfer electrode; and a second read-out region 162, formed between the second photoelectric transfer region and vertical transfer region at the lower part of the second transfer electrode.
