PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a high resolution image by preventing drop in sensitivity of an imaging element for photographing, and an imaging element for focus detection and image display when an image is generated. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes a first imaging element which captures the subject image and outputs a first image signal containing the brightness information but not containing the color information, a second imaging element which captures the subject image and outputs a second image signal having a resolution lower than that of the first image signal and containing at least the color information and the information about focusing state, and an image generation module for generating image data based on the first and second image signals.
