PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ring-like forging material for an outer ring in a bearing incorporated to a hub unit, which has a shape reduced in weight without embrittling the ring-like forging material by means of forging capable of axially shaping the outer ring of the bearing instead of CRF (cold rolling forming). SOLUTION: An outer race forging material 1 for a ring-like bearing having a race 3 for rolling a rolling element composed of a ball or roller on an inner periphery 1a is produced by making a ring from a steel bar material or steel pipe and subjecting the ring, after the surface thereof is shot-blasted, to lubricating treatment and cold forging. The outer race forging material 1 is reduced in weight so as to be incorporated to a hub unit by contracting one or both of a recessed groove 4 of an outer periphery 1a and a recessed cutout 5a of a ring end portion 5 while maintaining the shape of the ring inner periphery 1b.
