PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colloidal solution of a metallic compound having excellent preservability, wherein crystallites of a metallic compound of a small and uniform diameter are dispersed as they are or in a state of an aggregate of a metallic compound of a uniform and even smaller diameter. SOLUTION: The colloidal solution of a metallic compound comprising crystallites of a metallic compound having a crystallite diameter d<SB>50</SB>of not smaller than 0.8 nm and not greater than 3 nm whereat the cumulative number of the crystallite particles in the particle size distribution reaches 50% and having a crystallite diameter d<SB>90</SB>of not greater than 1.5 times the crystallite diameter d<SB>50</SB>whereat the cumulative number thereof reaches 90%, and a polymeric dispersant, is characterized in that the fine particles dispersed therein are the crystallites of the metallic compound and/or the aggregates of the compound having a particle diameter D<SB>50</SB>of not smaller than 0.8 nm and smaller than 4 nm whereat the cumulative mass in the particle size distribution reaches 50% and a particle diameter D<SB>90</SB>of not greater than 2.5 times the particle diameter D<SB>50</SB>whereat the cumulative mass reaches 90%.
