PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system which enables more appropriate decision as to whether an alternative route should be chosen. SOLUTION: The navigation system includes a route search unit 13, which searches for a route from the current position detected by a current position detecting unit 11 to the destination set by a destination setting unit 12, a route guidance unit 16 which performs guidance, based on the route searched for, a traffic information acquiring unit 14 which acquires traffic information, an alternative route search unit 15, which searches for the alternative route of the route under the guidance by the route guidance unit, based on the acquired traffic information; a route selecting unit 17, which forms a route selecting screen for selecting either the route under the guidance or the alternative route searched for; a route information computing unit 18 which generates alternative route information regarding the route under the guidance and the alternative route; and a display control unit 19, which makes a route selecting screen formed by the route selecting unit and an alternative route information screen, including the alternative route information computed by the route information computing unit, display on the same screen.
