The method involves detecting a danger area i.e. entrance area (1.1), of a door of a transportation medium (1) by an image detection device (3) i.e. stereo camera. Images of the device are supplied to a control unit, and the danger area is divided into a set of danger partial areas (G1-G5). A warning notice is provided to a driver and/or a closing process of the door is interrupted automatically by the control unit based on a position or movement of a detected person in one of the partial areas, where the notice is provided in the form of an optical, acoustical and/or haptic warning signal. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring a danger area i.e. entrance area of a door of a transportation medium.
