<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device, in which a display-side case can slide along a short-side direction and can be opened aslant, relative to an operation-side case. <P>SOLUTION: The portable electronic device includes an operation-side case, a display-side case, a rotation support member, and an elastic plate. The display-side case has two stopping parts protruding and spaced apart on the surface facing the operation-side case, and the free end of the elastic plate is stopped between the two stopping parts. While the display-side case slides relative to the operation-side case, the elastic plate slides between the two stopping parts and is compressed and is deformed. When the elastic plate slides beyond a middle position between the two stopping parts, the spring force is released so as to automatically rotate the rotation support member relative to the operation-side case.
