<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for more promptly making an accurate focusing determination. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes an image acquisition part for acquiring a color captured image; a first feature amount acquisition part, an area setting part, a second feature amount acquisition part, and an edge amount detecting part. The first feature amount acquisition part uses a plurality of color information items of the captured image to determine a first feature amount at each position of the captured image, respectively. The area setting part uses first feature amount distribution information indicating the distribution of the first feature amounts in the capture image to determine a detection area to detect an edge amount in the captured image. The second feature amount acquisition part uses a plurality of color information items of the captured image to determine a second feature amount, different from the first feature amount, at each position of the captured image, respectively.
