PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical vacuum cleaner excellent in compactness and having a user-friendly clearance nozzle. SOLUTION: The vertical vacuum cleaner includes a cleaner body 10 with a built-in dust collecting portion 13 for collecting dust, a floor suction tool 19 provided at the lower part of the cleaner body 10 and sucking the dust on a floor, a floor-side suction flow passage 23 communicating between the floor suction tool 19 and the dust collecting portion 13, a connection pipe 25 for communicating with the dust collecting portion 13 through a hose 24, the clearance nozzle 26 attachable to and detachable from one end of the connection pipe 25, and a holder 27 that latches both the connection pipe 25 and the clearance nozzle 26. The vacuum cleaner is lead into cleaning operation quickly only by taking the connection pipe 26 out of the holder 27 without holding the clearance nozzle 26 by a hand when the clearance nozzle 26 is used, improving the user-friendliness. Moreover, since the holder 27 is shared when the connection pipe 25 and the clearance nozzle 26 are housed in the holder 27, the housing work is facilitated and the usability is improved by housing and latching the connection pipe 25 and the clearance nozzle 26 at the same time.
