The device has an inlet pressure pump (2) controlled by a metering unit (4) for conveying fuel from a fuel tank (3) to a high pressure pump (1) over an overflow valve (5), where the high pressure pump conveys the fuel to a high pressure accumulator. A fuel injector injects the fuel from the accumulator into a combustion chamber of a combustion engine, where ventilation of the injection device into the fuel tank takes place in a low-pressure region of the high pressure pump. A vent line (8) is attached to an interior of the high pressure pump.
