PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter capable of reducing the number of parts items for fixing an electromagnetic switch device and an electromagnetic driving device to each other and, further, capable of strongly fixing them to each other. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic driving device 7 having a function for extruding a pinion gear 5 toward a ring gear 39 side of an engine and an electromagnetic switch device 8 for opening/closing a main contact point of a motor 2 circuit are arranged in parallel with each other in the circumferential direction of the motor 2. A magnetic plate 9 formed from a single member is provided to be commonly used in axial end parts of a first coil 10 and a second coil 23. With this structure, the number of parts items for fixation can be reduced by using the magnetic plate 9 as a fastening member for fixing the electromagnetic driving device 7 and the electromagnetic switch device 8. Since the magnetic plate 9 forms a part of a magnetic circuit formed by magnetic fluxes to be generated by the first coil 10 and the second coil 23, the magnetic plate 9 is formed thick and can strongly fix the electromagnetic driving device 7 and the electromagnetic switch device 8 to each other.
