The component, particularly bearing assembly (1) has a shaft (2) that is provided with coupling geometry. A ring unit is connected with the coupling geometry in an axial direction of the shaft by a coupling section in a form-fit manner. A coupling nut is connected with the ring unit by a form closure section in a form-fit manner. The coupling nut is formed or arranged for protecting or preloading a bearing (3,4) by force transformation from the coupling nut on the bearing. The bearing is placed on the shaft. An independent claim is also included for a method for protecting or preloading a bearing in an axial direction by a component.
