<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tread capable of improving rolling resistance characteristics, operation stability, wet skid performance, wear-resistance and processability at a sufficient balance, and a pneumatic tire including a tread manufactured using it. <P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the tread includes a rubber component containing a butadiene rubber modified by a specific amino compound containing silicon, a silane coupling agent and silica. The silane coupling agent is obtained by copolymerizing a bonding unit B, in an amount of 1-70 mol%, with the total amount of a specific bonding unit A having a sulfide group and the specific bonding unit B having a mercapto group.
