PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress decrease of display quality due to a lateral electric field. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal panel 100 includes a liquid crystal element having a liquid crystal 105 between a pixel electrode 118 provided to an element substrate 100a and a common electrode 108 provided to a counter electrode 100b. An image processing circuit 30, in normally black mode, detects the boundaries between a dark pixel of which liquid crystal element has a lower applied voltage than a voltage Vth1 corresponding to a gradation level specified by an image signal Vid-in and a bright pixel of which liquid crystal element has a voltage Vth2 or higher, respectively by a present frame and a previous frame, and substitutes the applied voltage to the dark pixel in contact with a portion moved by one pixel from the boundary in front of the previous frame among the boundaries of the present frame from the applied voltage corresponding to the gradation level specified by the image signal of the present frame to a voltage Vc1 at the voltage Vth1 or higher and below the voltage Vth2.
