PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible method for representing a color image. SOLUTION: The method for representing a color image includes steps of: selecting two or more colors as representative colors for a color image or a region of the color image; calculating, for each representative color, parameters related to the color distribution in relation to each of the representative colors for the color image or the region of the color image having the two or more representative colors; calculating, for each representative color, a weight parameter representing a relative significance of each representative color in the color image or the region of the color image on the basis of the number of pixels corresponding to each representative color in the color image or the region of the color image; and deriving a descriptor including the parameters related to the corresponding color distribution and the weight parameter for the color image or the region of the color image using the parameters and the weight parameter.
