A composition containing a polymer or copolymer of a mono-olefinic hydrocarbon, carbon black and a minor proportion of an organic peroxide selected from those containing the hydrogen peroxide group (-O-O-H) or those in which both oxygen atoms of the peroxy group (-O-O-) are joined to organic radicals, the organic peroxide having a boiling point above 200 DEG F. at atmospheric pressure, is subjected to the action of an electrical field alternating at a frequency in an excess of 2 megacycles per second for a length of time sufficient to effect cross-linking of the composition to the elevated temperature stable state, the carbon black and peroxide being present in an amount equal to at least 10% and 0,5% respectively of the weight of the polymer or copolymer. The hydrocarbon may be ethylene, propylene, butylene or pentylene and the peroxide may be dicumyl peroxide, tertiary butyl perbenzoate or cumene hydroperoxide.
