A door latch mechanism comprises a latch device 10 adapted to be mounted on an upright edge 45 of a door mounted on a motor vehicle for angular movement about a normally vertical axis, and a keeper device 11 adapted to be mounted on an upright edge of a body pillar 34 of the vehicle, the latch device 10 including ar angularly movable bol 12 having teeth 12a adapted to co-operate with teeth 40, 41 on the keeper device 11 to hold the door in a latched position; a por tion 36 of the keeper device 11 on which the teeth 40, 41 are formed is spaced from the body pillar 34 when the keeper device 11 is mounted thereon, and the latch device 10 includes a strap 19 having a part 20 which, when the latch and keeper devices are mounted on the vehicle and the door is in the latch position, lies between the portion 36 of the keeper device 11 and the body pillar 34, the mechanism further including a wedge 25 slidably mounted on the strap 19, and the arrangement being such that, when the door is latched, disengagement of the latch device 10 and keeper device 11 due to relative movement longitudinally of the vehicle is prevented by abutment between the portion 36 of the keeper device 11 and the part 20 of the strap 19, and vibratory movement of the door in a vertical direction is prevented by abutment between the portion 36 and the wedge 25. The bolt 12 is rotatably mounted on a plate 13 by means of a shaft 14 which is operatively connected to other elements (not shown) of the latch mechanism. The strap 19 is secured to the plate 13 and is in the form of a channel-shaped member, the part 20 being the web thereof. The keeper device 11 is U- shaped, the portion 36 forming one leg thereof and the wedge 25 is spring-loaded and engages the upper edge of the portion 36 which is inclined.
