Processing medical imaging data of a subject, the data having a physiological or anatomical feature of interest. From a first set of the imaging data an intensity projection line along a specified axis of an image volume of the data is generated. The projection line is converted to a monogenic signal and local phase information extracted from the signal. A function of the phase information is calculated, and the thus processed phase information is used to locate the feature region of interest or landmark in the first data set, or to register the feature of interest with a second data set. Motion of the feature of interest during a scan can be determined using a similarity measure and used to correct the data sets for motion. The phase data may be processed using a cosine function. The earliest data set to be used for registration can be determined using a similarity measure between consecutive pairs of data sets in a series of image data sets for time points in a dynamic scan. The method can be used for imaging the left ventricle 404 using a PET scan. Using phase for feature registration is tolerant to changes in image intensity which can vary following injection of a tracer as it diffuses through the body. |
