PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for supporting the handover of a terminal in a mobile communication system are provided to perform a plurality of random access procedures in order to obtain uplink timing synchronization information. CONSTITUTION: Handover of a target cell of a terminal is approved according to a source cell(621). The terminal sets up radio resource information in a target cell and transmits radio resource information to the source cell(625). It confirms whether a random access procedure is completed(631). If the random access procedure is completed, the handover of the terminal is completed(661a).
