A bright pigment with improved brightness is provided. A bright pigment 1 of the present invention includes a scaly inorganic base 10 and a coating 20 containing a pure substance of silver or a silver alloy and covering the inorganic base 10. The inorganic base 10 has an average thickness of 0.2 µm to 7.0 µm. The content of the pure substance of silver or the silver alloy in the bright pigment 1 satisfies the formulas 1) and 2): 1) y ‰¥ - 9 Ln x + 19
2) y ‰¤ - 22 Ln x + 52 where x is the average thickness (µm) of the inorganic base and y is the content (mass%) of the pure substance of silver or the silver alloy.
