<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for generating interpolation pixel data capable of reducing erroneous interpolation due to erroneous detection of a motion vector. <P>SOLUTION: Correlation detecting units 21, 22 obtain correlation by two types of correlation detecting methods. Correlation comparison units 23, 24 output motion vectors MV1, MV2 of a direction indicating the maximum correlation values and correlation values DF1, DF2. A correlation comparison unit 25 selects, as a motion vector MV3, a motion vector having a larger correlation, and outputs an interpolation control signal FS1 for determining an interpolation method in an interpolation unit 3.
