An organo-tin compound is added to a cellulose acetate spinning solution in an amount of 0.01-0.2% by weight, based on the weight of the cellulose acetate, and the solution is spun, cellulose acetate fibres having an ability to inhibit the growth of microbes being thereby obtained. Preferably 0.05-0.15% of the organotin compound is added. Specified compounds include tetra-benzyl tin, triethyl phenyl tin and tribenzyl phenyl tin. Conventional additives, e.g. surface-active agents or colouring agents, may also be present in the spinning solution.
