A free-spinning self-locking nut has a skirt 2, which is a circular or hexagonal ring in cross-section, surrounding a threaded main portion 1 which is of circular ring section and at least part of the inner surface of the skirt 2 contacts the outer surface of the main portion 1. Deformation of a connecting portion 3 permits the tapered surfaces 1b and 2c of the main portion and skirt to flatten, Fig. 4 (not shown), on to the bearing surface of the member 6 against which the nut is tightened. |
