PURPOSE: An image display device and a control method are provided to reduce a signal processing time and a signal processing amount of an image display device. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(120) displays an image corresponding to an output video signal. A user input unit(60) outputs a signal corresponding to a selected menu. A controller(70) informs an effective display area of an image display unit or a display area marked on the display unit to user.
