The present invention relates to branched copolymers based on unsaturated nitriles and conjugated dienes which are characterized in that the content of bonded unsaturated nitrile is 15 to 50 wt.%, the Mooney viscosity ranges from 15 to 150 MU [ML 1+ 4/100°C], the chain branching ranges from 0 to 20° (determined by the .DELTA..delta.B value) and the solubility is >=85 wt.% (measured in methyl ethyl ketone at 20°C). The copolymers according to the invention can be used for the preparation of hydrogenated copolymers based on unsaturated nitriles and conjugated dienes (HNBRs) for the production of all kinds of mouldings by the injection moulding or extrusion process and for improving the flowability of elastomers.
