Use of a matrix comprising type II collagen and glycosaminoglycans, as ex vivo culture support of human or animal chondrocytes, where the matrix is obtained by a process comprising: (a) mixing type II collagen and glycosaminoglycans; (b) freeze-drying; (c) cutting the matrix obtained in step (b) into at least three slices and eliminating the first slice and the last slice; (d) chemical crosslinking; and (e) washing, is claimed. An independent claim is included for a biomaterial for repairing a cartilage tissue lesions, constituted of a crosslinked matrix comprising type-II collagen and glycosaminoglycans, where the matrix is obtained by the process and the matrix is colonized by chondrocyte throughout its thickness.
