PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus optimally emphasizing contrast with respect to respective regions of an image. SOLUTION: Average values of the luminances of a 11th histogram 71, a 12th histogram 72 and a 13th histogram 73 are expressed by a 11th luminance average value ave1, a 12th luminance average value ave2, and a 13th luminance average value ave3 respectively. The 12th luminance average value ave2 is the same value as an emphasized luminance average value ave4, or the average value of a contrast emphasis histogram 78. The contrast emphasis histogram is translated along the luminance value axis according to the luminance average values.
