PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cleaning device which is made to be thin in a direction of a flow passage and employs an electrical discharging type photocatalytic system with a reduced pressure loss and an air cleaning method using the air cleaning device. SOLUTION: The air cleaning device 1 is equipped with: a photocatalyst-ozone decomposition catalyst module 10 which is disposed in the flow passage 60 where air flows and has a photocatalyst functioning part 11 formed in an upstream part of a base body, that ventilates air and is integrally molded, for performing a photocatalytic reaction and an ozone decomposition functioning part 12 formed in a downstream part of the base body for performing an ozone decomposition reaction; a first electrode 20 disposed to face the photocatalyst functioning part 11 of the module 10; and a power source part 50 for applying a voltage between the first electrode 20 and the base body of the module 10.
