Provided is a biaxially oriented polyester film for backside sealing of solar cells which is resistant to hydrolysis and has a low haze. A biaxially oriented polyester film for backside sealing of solar cells which consists of a polyester film that contains titanium in an amount of 20ppm or less in terms of titanium atom content and phosphorus in an amount of 170ppm or less in terms of phosphorus atom content and that has an antimony content of 10ppm or less in terms of antimony atom content and which has a terminal carboxyl content of 26 equiv./t or less and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.65 to 0.90.
