PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform transfer printing in a more appropriate method in an ink jet printer performing printing in a transfer printing method. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer 10 performing printing by transfer printing includes: an ink jet head 12 forming a transferred image on an image receiving drum 14 by discharging droplets of ultraviolet curing ink to the image receiving drum 14 as a transfer medium; a half-curing light source 18 which is a light irradiation part before transfer printing for sending light to the transferred image in the state before transfer printing is performed; and a main-curing light source 20 which is an ultraviolet irradiation part after transfer printing for sending ultraviolet rays to an image after transfer printing formed on a recording medium 50 in the state after the transfer printing is performed. The half-curing light source 18 generates visible light in which intensity peak is on a longer wavelength side than 420 nm in the emission spectrum, and the ultraviolet curing ink is ink reacting to light generated by the half-curing light source 18 to increase viscosity.
