PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently detect that any of a plurality of components in a microcomputer has failed. SOLUTION: An electronic control system 1 includes: a control microcomputer 110 having storage portions 131, 132 for accommodating digital data for failure detection, an arithmetic operation unit 171 having operation functions and an AD converter 141; and an analog arithmetic operation portion 120 for carrying out the same operation as that of an arithmetic operation unit 161. It is determined that the failure has occurred in any of functions held by the control microcomputer 110 when a difference between the operation results exceeds a predetermined upper limit value by converting the digital data of the storage portions 131, 132 into analog signals so as to carry out operations by the analog operation portion 120 and by comparing the operation results acquired by allowing the operation results to be converted into the digital data by an AD converter 141 with those acquired by carrying out operations of the digital data in storage portions 131, 132 by means of the arithmetic operation unit 161.
