PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of the image quality of a reading original. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus for reading the image of the original includes a reader for reading the image of the original; an opening-closing member mounted in an openable and closeable manner, while facing the reader and pushing the original in the reader direction, and an opening-closing member floating detection pattern mounted on the reader side of the opening/closing member. The image reader further includes a discriminator for reading the opening/closing member floating-detecting pattern by the reader and discriminating the existence of the floating opening/closing member, and an information provider informing the presence of the floating opening/closing member, when the presence of the floating opening/closing member is detected by the discriminator.
