PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-shielding coating which combines an internal reflection prevention function and a surface reflection prevention function and to provide an optical element using the same. SOLUTION: There are provided the coating containing at least one type of ingredient which is selected from: (a) resins; (b) color materials; (c) inorganic fine particles; and (d) surfactants and oils and keeping the density of at least one type of ingredient selected from the (d) surfactants and oils in the coating higher in its surface layer than in its lower layer, and the optical element using the light-shielding coating.
