PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a fuel tank allowing reduction of an amount of sludge accumulated in the tank and an operation method of the fuel tank, easily applicable to existing tanks. SOLUTION: The fuel tanks 10a, 10b includes tank bodies 20a, 20b receiving and storing crude oil containing sludge; and receiving nozzles 24a, 24b connected to receiving lines 12a, 12b pumping the crude oil to the tank bodies 20a, 20b, injecting the pumped crude oil to float the sludge accumulated in the tank bodies 20a, 20b. A fuel storage facility 1 having such fuel tanks 10a, 10b floats the accumulated sludge when receiving the crude oil, pays out the crude oil containing the sludge via pay-out lines 14a, 14b to reduce the accumulated amount of the sludge in the tank bodies 20a, 20b.
