PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stator wherein leakage current can be reduced, as much as possible, and to provide an electric rotating machine which uses the stator. SOLUTION: An inner winding is placed in the outermost layer of each slot 33, and an inner winding and an outer winding are alternately placed from the outermost layer to form a winding 32. In a stator core 31, multiple slots 33 extending in the axial direction are formed so that they are lined up at equal intervals in the circumferential direction. Here, thecircumferential width of each slot 33 is gradually increased, as going from the inside to the outside, in the radial direction.
