The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0904680/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or a methyl group and A denotes a 5- or 6- membered ring which may contain further heteroatoms and may be substituted by alkyl- or amino groups or halogen atoms and the preparation thereof by condensing a 6,7-dihalo-5,8-quinoline- orquinaldine-quinone with an equivalent amount of a nitrogen containing hetero cyclic compound which carries a primary amino group in the a -position to the ring nitrogen atom and which may be further substituted by alkyl or amino groups or halogen atoms, in the presence of a solvent and an acid binding agent, which may be a second equivalent of the reacted amine, at between 60 DEG and 140 DEG C. The heterocyclic o-quinones have bacteriostatic properties and may be employed as therapeutic agents in the form of tablets or solutions. |
