The present disclosure relates to gels comprising from about 100 µM to about 10 mM of nitric oxide. The gels have an antimicrobial effect. The present gels may have a pH of from about 3 to about 6 and a viscosity at 21°C is from about 5 mPa.s to about 100,000 mPa.s.
