PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an application for enabling effective utilization of needless and recovered alkali-free glass as resources; to further provide a fluorescent material showing high emission intensity; and to also provide a method for producing a fluorescent material with high emission intensity using the needless and recovered alkali-free glass as a raw material. SOLUTION: The fluorescent material includes the alkali-free glass and a rare earth atom, the fluorescent material preferably includes 95-99.99 wt.% of the alkali-free glass and 0.01-5 wt.% of the rare earth atom, and the method for producing the fluorescent material comprises mixing the alkali-free glass with a compound containing the rare earth atom and pulverizing it.
