PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of welding a thermoplastic tape which is capable of shortening a packaging cycle of an automated packaging machine by accelerating the cooling speed of a melting part of the tape by the use of a heater, without increasing the number of components. SOLUTION: By welding starting signal, heating current is applied through a heater 9 to heat a tape b up to a temperature required for welding, the tapes b are overlapped, and the overlapping parts are heated and pressed with the heater 9 with the raised temperature, when the overlapping parts of the tapes b are melted, the heating current through the heater 9 is interrupted or switched to preheat current whiled being pressed, and thereby the temperature of the heater 9 is lowered to cool the melting parts of the tape b, so that their coagulation speed is enhanced.
